a few words about

Who We Are

The Sioux City Family Medicine Residency Program is the only residency program in Northwest Iowa. It was established in cooperation with Sioux City's two hospitals and community physicians in 1975. The residency consists of three years of postgraduate study with an approved class of six residents in each year. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and is affiliated with the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.

The Sioux City medical environment gives real strength to our program. The community provides tertiary care for a large portion of a three-state region, without any competing residency programs. Our faculty is made up of eight physicians and is enhanced by a volunteer faculty comprised of the entire Sioux City medical community. Also on staff are two behavioral scientists and a clinical pharmacist. Sioux City is fortunate to have two strong participating hospitals that provide excellent supportive services to our program. The community is strongly supportive of family medicine and is ideally situated with specialty services readily available.

why did you choose the

Siouxland Medical Education Foundation?

I wanted a program that would give me a solid foundation in the academic side of medicine, and enough hands-on experience to put that knowledge into practice. But most of all, I wanted a place where I could be comfortable and feel at home for the next three years.
